i'm wondering if there is anyone who knows firsthand the different routes to take if you want to practice medicine in the army. can you go through rotc? i'm currently active duty, so i'm thinking green to gold is what i can do. thanks to anyone who can give me some insight, i'm pretty confused.

yes i will contact my career counselor, and don't refer me to goarmy.com or something.

just looking for personal experiences, if anyone has any. thanks!

  1. One way is to attend and graduate from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences at Bethesda, Maryland. The link below is to their web site.

  2. For civilian med schools, it's call the Health Professions Scholarship Program (HPSP), and many HPSPs were ROTC in undergrad also. In terms of payback it is similar, but the specifics are very different. As said before, see the Military med forum and read all the stickies for more info.

  3. I'd love to answer this but because every situation is different, only the health care recruiter for whatever service you're interested in can give you quality information.

At the minimum, you have to meet the requirements just like every other applicant wanting to enlist ie. physical/asvab/HS grad

For health care professionals (nurses, dentist, MDs and vets), you must already have 4 years of college, passed your MCATs and then accepted to an accredited college/Med School.

This is generalized.  I'm a nurse and worked with so many MD's over the years.

Best thing, get with a health care recruiter and sit down, don't call, and discuss things.
