  1. Ya walmart does have a six month wait but thats BS because I was hired with this kid a month ago and he is a CSM now all you have to do is pass the test. Also you have to know someone.

  2. Work hard, I came in with supervisor skills and was immediately hired in as a CSM

  3. First you have to take and pass one of 2 tests. 1. Supervisory test or 2. The assistant managers test.  If you fail the supervisory test you are able to take the assistant managers test and that will override it.  You then have to put it in your current interests on The Wire. Save your changes and then talk to your Front end manager, store manager, whoever you feel more comfortable with.  Tell them you passed your test and put in for it.  Keep on it.  Walmarts new policy is that you have to be there 6 months before you can be a CSM.  also if you fail both tests you must wait 6 months before you can take them again.

  4. even for me i started as cashier 1.5 weeks lte i was csm, 2.5 mon and im lead csm theres no test u just hav to know wat to do

  5. What's your job title right now? Lets assume you are a cashier or courtesy desk associate who deals with returns.

First you got to make sure that you are the associates who follows the rules and don’t try to take the easy way out.  Next you have to be as careful as possible when dealing with money but making your till the exact amount and if anything errors only happen like once or twice a year. Become one of those cashiers where the managers can just be like “ah that’s fred he is always right on with he is counting, I don’t need to audit his till”
Also a very important tip that a lot of people fail to do is, know if you can do it and if that’s for you. A lot of people  go into a position already having a preset mind of how it’s going to be, after that they are just not happy or get stressed out because that’s not what they expected.

Can you handle being called on from all associates that have a register and complaints from customers? I’m not saying one customer or associate at a time I’ve talking 3 to 5 people at a time. You’ll have one associate that’ll say “I need an override please” and right when you are about to go there you get paged “csm electronics needs change” and then you have a customer asking some thing and another cashier coming “hey I need to close my till so I can go home. All of that just happened in less than 30 seconds, the key is to be able to say “alright I have to help five people and I shall do this in order” and not go crazy and stress your self out. There has been a few cashiers who became csms that ended up moving to another department because of that.

Make sure that you are comfortable when it comes to dealing with money because that’s what you’ll be dealing with majority of your shift. You deal with your podium giving change to cashier, auditing registers, closing registers you name it csms do it. If you are comfortable with this paragraph and what is said above then comes the next step mentioned below.

With that, there is also showing the learning more about their responsibilities and how they perform certain tasks. Like one day you can go to a csm and just have a chat about their work and slowly get to know their responsibilities. When the time comes that they don’t have enough csms due to any reason, you can always jump in and offer to help because hey you already know some stuff about csming. Doing so will slowly build your experience. When a position becomes available you have the strength on your side over the other applicants because you have the experience.

It also takes a lot of interest like don’t sit back and wait for them to come to you, you have to push your self through and ask them for it. One thing in walmart that they admire is the eager to learn and being interested in your work.

I was a cashier at walmart since 2008 of march and with in an year of being a cashier I kept pushing them to learn and some csms taught me stuff and using that knowledge I worked as a back up. Where was a few times that some csms didn’t come in and I got to help out. I made sure I jumped at the chance to help out. Then when the position became available I was a more stronger link that the others who applied and that’s how I got to where I am now. Granted I am a full time associate not part time that’s why it took such a long time. If it’s part time you are seeking for it’ll not take so much time it’ll take a lot less time because part time associates don’t stay around very long they always leave and new faces appear.

I wish you good luck and I know that you’ll have no problem getting to where you want if you follow every thing I mentioned.

  6. I got CSM after working there for two month. I am a poor college student working only part time, but I work hard and they saw that. I didn't have it in my preferences but I stuck out with my upbeat personality and drive to succeed, so my manager pulled me aside and asked me if I wanted to be an assistant. I was for a little while, when when the position opened, I took the test and scored high enough to get an interview. (There are two tiers of scores, apparently if you score in the lower tier, your name doesn't get dropped for an interview.) I blasted them away with the interview and now am a CSM. My work ethic is still strong even though a lot of people do not respect that a 20 year old college student got the CSM position after only 2 months of working there. This is the only challenging part of the job, and people are finally coming around and seeing how hard of a worker I am. So make yourself stand out in a good way, keep pushing, and put it in your preferences so management knows your intentions.

  7. No test required, it may take alot of patience though. Make sure your front end Manager knows you're interested. Also, make sure you aren't recving constant float error reminders or Till shortages, alot of counting and dealing with money is required while CSM-ing when cashing out tills or auditing tills or even giving cashier's their needed change, accuracy is very important. Show management that you're willing to take extra shifts, jump at every opportunity you can to go above and beyond, show them you are also able to multitask and can handle constant running around. (Some shifts, I swear, are like a full workout) Having experience being a Courtesy Desk associate also helps because you would be expected to know the workings of the Front End very theraly because when a Cashier or Returns associate doesn't understand something, it will be you they will be coming to. Also, depending on the need of CSMs and the amount they already have at your location you may have to be patient for a position to open up.
Just keep working hard at what you do, and remind your Front end manager here and there that you are interested and really want to move up to CSM-ing, Management (from my experience anyway) are fairly good at helping associates get to where they want to be down the road.

  8. I just got the Lead CSM job at my store and i've only been in wal-mart for 2 years.

Just go above and beyond and apply apply apply to other jobs then just csm or they wont take you seriously.
