Recently I just started trying to show my 2 year old how to use the potty. Dr.'s say wait until they're two so they'll fully understand the concept...

But I dont kno where to start. I've been putting her on the potty and explaining to her to pee-pee, and she's pretty smart but...

WHere do I go from there?

  1. It takes a long time and lots of practice. Read potty books and watch Potty movies where they talk about it. Let her see you when you use the toilet and talk about it. Does she have words for pee pee and poo poo ? She has to get that down. It can help if you put her in cloth training pants, so she can feel when she is wet and will not want to be wet. It mostly just takes time. If you think she might be about to do something, ask her if she has to go and then make a game of it...run, run, run to the potty and try to go on the potty. You can use stickers or cookies or some kind of reward...it just takes time. Good luck, she'll get it.

  2. This sounds like it wouldnt work, but it some how does. I got my twin neighbors onto the potty and put their hands in warm water, and just like that they peed on the potty for the first time. After that, they knew what to do and now they're little pros!

  3. Start putting your cutie on the potty every morning and whenever she wakes up so she can wee on the potty...

  4. put her in underwear and prepare for accidents and lots of laundry.  after she's had a few accidents, either she'll "get it" or she won't.  if she doesn't, she's not ready.  if she does, great!

  5. I think its easier to start with p**p because that is more of an effort and the kid knows when they're pooing. My son always pooped after he ate his lunch so I started by putting him on the potty after lunch. If you have a time when it happens naturally take advantage of that. Your kid won't really get the concept until they do it one time and get positive reinforcement for doing the right thing. First time is the hardest, it gets easier after that.

Once they master p**p move on to pee. For that I always start with the morning when they get up. Wake them and go straight to the potty so they don't get a chance to wet in their diaper. Again they will pee in the potty because they just need to pee anyway and then praise, praise, praise. Also watch your kid for cues, like if she stops a minute and kinda winces or seems to bear down, say wait, lets go sit on the potty.
