Question:

How to blackout baby bedroom windows?

Does anyone know any good ideas of how to black out the bedroom windows in our babies room?

Sadly we have sort of bay windows, so we can't install blinds,

We have curtains, but they don't cut out all light.

I'm guessing by blackout backing for curtains or darker curtains, but anyone with any over ideas?

many thanks

  1. i wouldn't make it totally dark. you will set your child up for only being able to sleep in total darkness. also, the sun in the morning is what helps set your biorythms for the day. if the curtains block enough light to make it somewhat shady, that should be enough. you want your baby to be able to sleep anywhere, even in the daylight.

  2. The trouble with black out lining for curtains is that it completely cuts all light out, I wouldn't want  to encourage a baby to become accustomed to that as if you go to stay somewhere else and they don't have it, you may have problems getting your little one to sleep.

Try diffusing the light a little instead. I am sure you can get some frosted sticky plastic that sticks to the window to diffuse the light. This can be removed at any time too.

    Good luck

  3. I use the type of covering they have at hardware stores.  You just cut it to fit and then press it onto the window.  It will seal out the amount of light you want by choosing several different styles.  They also have some that are really cute and hopefully fit into your decor.

  4. YOU CAN GET BLINDS FOR BAY WINDOWS,TRY B&Q,thats where igot mine.

  5. You can buy ready made blackout linings in lots of sizes, they just link to the curtain with the hooks so you only really know they're there when pulled. We found this better than film as the windows are instantly back to normal.

  6. I have black out curtians. We got them from Kmart. They were 27 dollars a pannel. We tested them out when we left the store on a sunny day. I held them up to the sun and you couldn't see any light from them. They don't go all the way to the floor and they don't come in the prettiest colors, but they are amazing!! I can sleep all day if I want too. They are great.

    Here is the link.

    Hope I helped!!

  7. Hi booboo.

You could try using some 'blackout film'. This is a very good alternative to blinds. Here's one site for you. This is a UK site, however if you type 'blackout film' in your search bar you will come across other sites (Some in your area, some offering different quotes).

  8. you can purchase blackout lining at the fabric store to line the curtains, all you need to do is sew a bit of tape to the top that is also sold at the fabric store to insert hooks, this way it will be easier for you to remove it when you no longer wanted or you can straight stitch on the top leaving the sides free.

  9. pin a blanket over the window
