How to book the train ticket online and get the ticket to mail?

I want to go to my home town. please suggest how to book train ticket online?

Hi,

Please refer the answer by Mr Rishi about the www.irctc.co.in and follow the points and now a days it ha sbecome much more easy to get the print out of the E ticket from your computor. U need not waste your time in waiting for the courier or post man to receive the ticket.

You your self can book under e ticket option and get your ticket in your mail box

register yourself in this site.

you need to specify the ticket delivery address and contact #

last but not least, pay for the tickets online (use credit card or direct debit with some leading banks).

Log on to irctc.co.in -

choose the destination from and to and

select the E-ticket option for a instant confirmation of the ticket in your mail box and a print out.  

An E-ticket can be booked only if the status is not on WL (wait list)

If it is you can only book an i-ticket (hard copy).  You can book your tickets 90 days in advance so book early enough, if you feel the rush will be for a particular season.
