You can book a train ticket by visiting the reservation office of Indian railways near your place. You can now book a ticket for travel across any source and destination anywhere in the country    IE: you can book a ticket from trichy to madurai at Newdelhi reservation center. The Reservation offices are available at Railway stations and also in other parts of the city. (For Ex: The reservation center in Besant Nagar Chennai is an example for a reservation center not situated within a railway station complex).

You can book a railway ticket by contacting the authorised rail ticket agency in your city. They will make the booking for you at a nominal charge. You can book a ticket on Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation's site http://www.irctc.co.in.

There are two modes of delivery E-Ticket and I-Ticket.

E-Ticket is something you print on a white paper and is valid with the Identification Card (The detail has to be provided at the time of booking) and I-Ticket is delivery of paper ticket to the address that you provide at the time of booking and does not need an Identification document.
