How to break a large rock?

Started breaking up an ugly sidewalk today, intending to replace it with paving blocks. Under part of the sidewalk was a piece of what I think is granite, almost 3 feet in diameter and maybe 3 or 4 inches thick as far as I can tell, like a giant stepping stone. I'd leave it where it is and incorporate it into the new sidewalk but it's got concrete all stuck to it and looks awful, and it's higher than I want the new sidewalk to be. I can lift one edge a bit with some leverage but no way can I lift this rock, and I think it's too big to go out through the gate as it is. How could I could split it into 2 or 3 pieces? Have large sledgehammer.

  1. Use the sledgehammer.  Just swing really hard, If that doesnt work find a boy to do it for you, lol!!!!

  2. invite some males over tell them I'll cook dinner for the one who breaks this up and moves it out of here.

make sure you have some good smelling food cooking.

  3. swing away with the sledge hammer or rent a jack hammer.
