Question:

How to break habit: biting the inside of my cheek with my canine teeth?

So far, I just wear the bottom part of my orthodontic retainer, all day & night long, which prevents my doing it. As soon as I remove the retainer, I start biting again.

I know Milton Erickson, therapist, said to break a habit by stopping it one minute the first day & double the time each day thereafter.

Any other ideas that worked for you?

  1. i just stopped biting my nails but i needed to wear fake nails for about 2 months so i could get used to not biting so wear the retainers for as long as possible

  2. i do the same thang some times but i stoped chewing gum helps u stop hope. i helped:)

  3. Habits are hard to break.....whatever is working you will need to do for quite a while to re-train yourself...

Good Luck!! and good for you!

  4. maybe you could chew gum

  5. Chewing gum, gummy snacks, or lollipops work pretty well, but all the sugar can rot your teeth.

You can buy a mouthguard at most drugstores which will prevent you from biting your cheeks, but wearing a retainer is better for you since it's helping your teeth stay in place.

It takes three weeks straight of repeating an action to make it a habit. Maybe marking off each day on the calender until you stop will help you quit...?

  6. "Canine" teeth? Interesting...woof woof

  7. ow yeah that's what i do, but obviously not as serious as you. i'd probably get the teeth doing something else - chewing gum

  8. i brake a habit with another habit if i wanted to reach for a smoke i reached for jalapeno or something spicy but now i love jalapenos but its better then smoking lol. try biting something else something healthy like  baby carrots or a snickers bar if your a junk food addict i am a little of both lol.
