  1. put a male sunrise platy in with 2 female sunrise platies and wait about a month.

  2. They are live bearers, so breeding is not hard. It is best to keep 1 male for every 2 females so the females do not get to stressed with the males always wanting to mate. Wait a month and the female will give birth, but be where they eat there young! I saw a video of a platy giving birth and as soon as the fry was born the mom turned around and ate the fry! ironic...

Well, you can but one of those breeding traps so when the female gives birth the babies fall underneath a grid thing and are safe from the mom, but you can't always catch the mom at the right moment, so I like to set up a thing in the tank for her. It is a big net, the sides are to little for the babies to get through, but the bottom is large  enough for the babies to swim thro. Then once they swim thro they are trapped in a 2 gallon capacity net. Once the mom gives birth, I let her out of the net and take the babies into another tank to raise them. Make sure the area you keep the female in the net has the capacity of at least 2 gallons, so the mom has enough room and does not get stressed like she mihgt in a breeder box because it is to small. You can keep the mom in the box for a long ammount of time since it has a ot of room. It is basically a BIG breeders net that has 2 parts, one for the mom and 1 for the babies! Good luck with the fishes!

  3. Put a male and a female in a tank and wait a few weeks.  It's that easy.

  4. Breeding livebearers like platys is as simple as placing 1 male with 2-3 females in a tank and let them do their thing. But in order to ensure success, you should place any pregnant feamels in breeding traps in order to separate the fry from the parents. Also you should be ready with rearing tanks/pond for the growing fry, feed them well and in a cpuple of monthe they should be large enough to be placed in a community setting.

BTW, platys will be able to give nirth to fry every 26-40 days depending on the water temp and other environmental factors, and eacg brood can range from 20-50 fry, for larger females 100 fry is not unusual.

  5. 1 male to 2-3 females. When the female gets close, you can put it in another aquarium that is planted, or you can have a lot of hiding places in your aquarium. Plastic breeding traps are death traps. they do not allow enough water movement to keep the water in the trap healthy. The net traps are much better for water flow. Unless you are breeding them to sell them, use plants in your tank, otherwise you will have more fry than you can handle. I had the most success with plastic breeding grass, floating upside down at the top of the tank. I had a Molly that had over 100 babies at 1 time. I had a 75 gallon tank, with about a dozen live bearers, and wound up with 100's of fish, in a few months. Just feed the fry finely crushed flake food. Good luck.
