Anyone of mexican descent please do not take offense at this but we are all aware there is a great deal of corruption of mexico and sometimes a little inducement gets you a long way

Anyways, what is the appropriate method for bribing minor officials in Mexico, specifically the puebla/mexico city area in order to get through roadblocks, get service at a police station etc. Will Mexican currency do or is American needed?

How much is too much, anyone you should not have to bribe or shouldn't try? what is a good method for completing the exchange in a quiet manner? anything else I didnt think of that you might know?

  1. all ways keep 2 wallets with you, hide your big bills, and before they handcuff you, ask/ HOW MUCH?

  2. Why on earth do you think you would need to bribe someone to get through a roadblock?  I am an American living in Mexico.  I have NEVER had trouble going through a road block.  They are there to screen for drug dealers.  Unless you have drugs in your vehicle you will have absoluely NO  problem. They are required to check so many cars a day randomely.  Just let them do their work, be pleasant, and you will be fine.   Trying to bribe them will surely get you arrested.  As for getting service at a police statio...why would you be in a police station?   Attempted bribery will get you arrested...Obey the laws, be pleasant and co-operative, and you will have no problems.  sure there is corrupion in gov't, but it is among the very powerful and behind the scenes. Mexico certainly is not unique in this.  Remember the Louisiana congressman with $90,000 in his freezer a few months ago?   Most local and state go'vt offices are fighting corruption and  they actually do give good service to people who go in for help.

  3. Roadblocks? well i supose that you'll be carring some weed or something like that, other way, why would you have to bribe someone?...

Just wait for them to say, Help me to help YOU.

You shouldn't be the one who "proposes" a "deal".
