I am a graduate student in USA on F1 visa. I am planning to graduate this august/december. I am planning to bring my mother, who is in India, here. I have heard that it is possible to bring parents here for 6 months. Could anyone please let me know the procedure? Is it possible to bring her before I graduate? Or does she have to go for the visa only for my graduation? Kindly let me know the procedure. Thanks in advance.

  1. I am really sorry but I don't know! I am from England and I really want to go to America for university! If you can can you please email me (it doesn't have to be long!) on how you got your visa and everything!

    Please!

    Thank you if you do!

  2. Unfortunately since you are a non-immigrant (F1), your status in the United States at this moment in time will not hinder nor aid your parents visa application.

You cannot petition or sponsor them, they must qualify for a visa on their own merit.

For a visit they need to apply for a B1/B2 visa, this is done at the U.S. Embassy/Consulate in India. The link below as all of the details your parents need to apply for said visa.

Again, there is nothing you can do. You have no legal standing to be able to help them regardless of if you are still in school or have graduated.

Only citizens and permanent residents of the United States can petition their parents and you are neither of those.
