How to build a rope swing?

I would like to build a rope swing from our dock into the lake. We have no trees near by and our dock does not have a roof so I don't know what to tie the rope to? Would it be best to make it on the dock or on the patio that is higher up? How should I go about this?

  1. Plant a tree and let it grow or use a hot air balloon.

  2. Well the rope needs something high to get the swing into the lake or water. So plan on that part for sure. U will have to tie the rope with a knot that will not come loose from the top or whatever you are tying it to. Then you knot the bottom about 18"  up from the bottom of the rope in a knot, again one that won't come out. That is the place you place your feet to swing the rope and hang on. Get a good swing, and don't forget to let go over the water....Timing is the key....I learned the hard way when I was a kid.....waited too long...hit hard in the shallow part....UGG...was ok...but it took a while to breathe....
