I have a water dragon about 13" long. At the moment he has a 35 gallon tank and the free range of my four bedroom apartment. I wantedd to build him a cage and I need some ideas. I thnk it will be a cool project and I dont want him to have to end up in a 80 gallon fish tank because of lack of insperation on my part. He doesnt need a larger cage at the moment but I know its a good time to start thinking about one. so any ideas or thought on how to go abut this would be great

  1. I've only built enclosures for my snake but I don't think that it would be much different for a water dragon.

I found this website really helpful.

These plans will give you a good starting place, just make changes to suit your needs.

  2. I built my green iguana a cage a while ago, it is 4 feet long 3 feet wide and 6 feet tall with 3 levels to it (yours obviously doesn't need the hight since your lizard doesn't climb as much as an iguana) I used ply wood for the base and the 2 other levels. I stood 2 by 3s up in each corner as my posts, and used them as cross supports at the top and on the sides where I out the other levels. I also put on standing up in the front as a support for the door. I made the door over half of the front of the cage and go from top to bottom so it can be opened allowing him to come and go as he pleases. The door was a frame made of 2 by 3s, and I used 1/2 inch chicken wire to cover everything and a staple gun to hold it in place, and 3 inch carpentry screws to hold all the boards together. The project only costed around 60 dollars total and my lizard seems very pleased, good luck
