I'm 19 and sort of have bad credit already b/c when I tried to get an apartment for college I was rejected so instead had to get one in my parents' name. Sometimes I would pay payments early, but other times I would just totally forget about it and not pay and then I be charged interest..this has been going off and on. So, I have a few questions..

  1. Just pay your bills on time and never be late.

  2. If you want to know your credit score I suggest you check out this site. They offer it for free, along with your credit report.

  3. You are always charged interest and finance charges for late payments.  I sincerely would consider swearing off credit cards.  You are 19 and have not proven that credit is something you are ready to manage properly.  Tear up the cards and live a more Spartan life.

  4. Always make your payments on time and don't be late.  Go and get a secured credit card (credit cards where you deposit the money onto it).  These are known to help people repair their credit quickly.

Just be sure to send in your payments a few days early and always make the minimum.

  5. A credit card is a great financial tool. It can be more convenient to use and carry than cash, and it offers valuable consumer protections under federal law. At the same time, it's a big responsibility. If you don't use it carefully, you may owe more than you can repay, damage your credit rating and create credit problems for yourself that can be difficult to fix.
