  1. It would be pretty hard to start a country. but mad props if you do.

  2. try nationstates.net, its the next best thing to owning an island/country thing

  3. Easiest way to do so would be by treaty with an existing country.

They would want some benefit for it so you would need to purchase it for more that they could get use out of it,  or would have to be forced either by your greater military might (Coup) or by your greater political power.

Best way to do it is to get some 5-6000 of like minded people to ratify a constitution and move all of them to a some place so militarily weak that you can force your political will upon them.

  4. the only way is to create your own island i international waters and claim it as a country cause there is no unclamed land btw you'll probally get attacked

  5. I have my own country.  It is going to break up as soon as Bush is out of office.

  6. If you begin by taking a pen and building your island on a piece of paper, then it need not cost much at all.

Build your dream into a story - building a new world is hard work, but so much fun!  Put people in and see what problems they come up against.  And if you do it well, and others like your stories, you may make enough money to buy your island for real.

When that happens you already have the blueprints for your island there in your books.

    I'd love to come visit.

  7. OP,

Just do well in school to find a proper job. Learn to invest, because if you're not a lottery winner, you will need to gamble your earnings to afford islands & culture.

    Best of luck your worship!!!!

  8. Well, it doesn't necessarily have to be an island, what you're looking to do. You could earn enough money to buy real estate in a town, and license certain businesses that you like (such as shops and restaurants and grocery stores) to set up shop in your town. You could make donations to the mayor's favorite charities, and that will earn you some influence in the town. You could also invest in infrastructure in the town, and if you play your cards right, you will indeed win favor among the people living there.

You will want to have a hospital. A good one. You will have to spend a lot of your budget to bring top-rated doctors and surgeons and other medical professionals into your hospital. For that you will need to make some sacrifices. Some of your money that you wanted to spend on parklands or beach resorts will have to go to the aforementioned. But if your hospital is reputable, out-of-towners will show up. And they will do business in your town. Revenue is revenue.

A professional sacrifice that you could make would be to offer decent food for families of the people who go to your hospital at a discounted price. This, alone, will bring your hospital esteem and acclaim.

Schools and churches should run the gamut. If you fail to offer someone a church of their particular denomination, that's considered religious discrimination. So you need to have a church for every denomination of the Christian religion, and facilities for Buddhists, Hindus, Jewish, Muslims, Wiccans, Druids, and so on. Schools should also run the gamut. You should have at least ten types of schools. Private, Catholic, Muslim, Hebrew, German Language, Spanish Language, Bilingual, Exclusive Private, as well as Excellerated Public and regular old Public Schools. I suggest being favorable of home-schooling, as this is the best means of teaching for a portion of the population.

In your town you need to have things that are going to bring in the out-of-towners. I suggest a nice museum. I suggest a members-only supper club. I suggest a country club. I suggest you get a golf pro to design and oversee the construction of a 5 star golf course. I think a planetarium in your town will go a long, long way for revenue. I know of one town that isn't very exciting, but because it has a nice planetarium, people go there.

You have to have diners. The working class deserve them. You have to have places where people can get a meal for $4 or $5 (or even $3). You can do it at a fast food chain, but people deserve better than the fast food chain.

Buy some real estate and license a motor-schooter dealership. It will encourage people to drive scooters / motorbikes instead of cars. This will cut the pollution in your town by half. Trust me on that one.

Now let's talk about something serious. Where do you put your heavy industry? I'm talking factories. A lot of skilled jobs exist in heavy industry. Heavy industry turns the working class into upper middle class, after they've had a job there for 15-20 years. Heavy industry is a haven for workers. I say, put the heavy industry on the edge of town. You don't put a factory near a $300,000 ranch home. you just don't.

    Well, good luck.
