How to burn a VHS tape to DVD format? Method to watch a VHS tape in a dvd player ?

How can you convert a VHS tape, to like burn it to a DVDRW, so that is essentially a DVD? (what kind of disk do you need to burn it to)

Besides how to burn the VHS tape to another format, is there also a way to play VHS tapes in a DVD player that you do not want to burn to this format, but just to play in a DVD player?

You would first have to convert the video into a format that can be written to a DVD.  For this, you'll need to get yourself a video capture card.  It basically lets you hook you VCR to your computer, and comes with software to capture and save the video digitally.  You really can't burn VHS directly to DVD, because VHS isn't digital video.  There needs to be an intermediate step.
