How to burn a dvd please help?

I have a window vista, im trying to burn on a DVD-R

can someone please explain me on how to burn one

video tut is welcomed, i have nero

the first time i tried i converted the files into mpeg and burned it with DVD flick as a video tut on youtube

then i have the files and copied and pasted to the disk and burned it

i can read it with my computer but i can't with my dvd player

please help on how to code the files
