How to burn a movie using dvd+r?

i download a movie from lime wire and i want to burn it using DVD+R

I use to do that. I used a program on my computer call Media Center. I downloaded the files in AVI format then went on Media Center and burned it to a DVD+R disk. But some movie files are to large so you either have to find a smaller file or download part 1 & part 2  and put it on a 2 separate disk. And I don't know why but some movie files may not be allowed to burn but if you go and download another file it will allow you to burn it but I don't know why.
