  1. +61 2 **** ***** (note the absence of "0" in that number - you do not use it from overseas)

  2. You need to call:

011 (to make an international call from USVI)

    61 (for Australia)

    2 (for Sydney)

xxxxxxxx (the 8 digit number in Sydney)

    So, it's

    011612xxxxxxxx

  3. 61 is correct for Australia, 2 is correct for New South Wales, the state Sydney's in, and eight is also the correct number of digits after the 2, so perhaps the number itself is wrong. Or maybe you're not dialling out of your country correctly. Check with your international operator what to dial to make an international call. For example, to dial out of Australia you first have to dial 00 11.

Edit: Now you say it's a mobile number. Australian mobile numbers start with 04, not 02, so are you sure? 02 is a NSW landline number as I've already said.

  4. If you are calling from your mobile to their mobile you have to dial either +61 or 0061. And their mobile number probably starts with 04 (if it is an Australian mobile number). so you have to dial +614 ( disregard the 0) and dial the rest of the number, same goes if you text message them. If you are calling from a landline you must find out what the code is for you to dial international, then dial 614 and the rest of the number. The 2 the other person mentioned is only for landlines in NSW Australia. Good Luck..
