you can't.  or start telling everyone your yahoo account

You can't cancel your Hotmail account; you need to set up forwarding to your Yahoo mail address (go to Options on the right of the interface, select more options at the bottom of the list and on the page that opens click "Forward mail to another e-mail account", use it to send and receive new mail and stop using the Hotmail address for any further communication.

You will have to tell everybody you know, that you change your email address to  Yahoo. Just sent them a mail with your new mail address

You can't really cancel your hotmail account.

You should not do that anyway.

Sometimes you need to give an e-mail address before you can download a program You do not really want to give them your active mail address.You never know for what purpose it is used.  I  always use my hotmail address for that, I do not use hotmail for anything else.
