How to capture VDO in a laptop ?

I had installed a firewire card in CPU for capturing VDO from a handycam. I now have a laptop. Whether USB port is the only mean to capture VDO in a laptop? I think quality of VDO from a fire-wire devise is far better than that through a USB cable. is there any alternative arrangement to avoid USB port and to use fire-wire (or similar) devise for capturing VDO in laptop?????? in absence of any solution, I have started feeling the whole world is meaning-less !

  1. Laptops use PCMCIA or Express cards - they're not interchangeable so it's important to get the right type.  Firewire cards of either type are readily available and easily installed.  PCMCIA firewire cards are cheap, too!

  2. Relax... it's not the end of the world!

    for desktop: firewire PCI

    for laptop:    firewire pcmcia
