Question:

How to capture a stray, wild kitten?

There is a very little, stray, wild kitten living in our window well. I have a bucket of water out there, and a bowl of food, which he eats and drinks from. I can't get within 20 feet from him because he is so skiddish. I am worried about how he will survive the horrible/cold/snowy winter, without a shelter around for him. What's the best way to catch him, and take him to a farm, or possibly find a home for him?

  1. As Angleine advised, use gloves!  I tried to catch a wild kitten myself, bare hands. He bit my thumb, and he didn't mean to scare me off, but rather to hurt me badly.  So I let it ran off, and treated my wound.

Food is a very good method to win trust, don't rush into it like I did. be patient.  You will know when he is considering to trust you.

Remember, if you are a stranger to a domestic cat and he being cat-foot of you, it will be much harder with a wild cat :)

I wish you success in your mission

  2. I got my five cats by catching them from the wild as kittens. If the kitten is young enough, you may be able to just catch it by hand. If you can, put on some gloves and sit by the food dish as still as you can be. When the kitten comes to get food, reach out your hand and have it come to you. Some food in your hand will help. If that doesn't work, then get a have a heart trap at any hardware or pet store, or get one from your local animal shelter. Put some food in there and check on it at least once a day. Just be careful and make sure you didn't catch an animal you didn't want in there,

  3. leave a box with a blanket in it next to the food bowl and the water bowl

  4. The Same Way I got my Dad to go to a Nursing home,

    With tranquilizer  darts.

HEHEHEH, Please Don't tell him I said that, not even jokingly

  5. hey,

bring him 2 diff kinds food near him if he or she  hungrey she will come then pick her up and bring her to the vet and after adopt her

  6. Maybe you should buy a cage with a blanket and leave it outside. and when you go out, close the cage.

  7. live trap. call your spca & see if they have any you can borrow. or every day, sit out there, & talk to it while it can see you. Slowly you may be able to gain the trust necessary to grab it. good luck
