I have a Sony HC54E handycam but in its capture settings(on my PC(sony Vegas)) I can capture videos only in 320X240 and 640X480(interpolated). Can anybody help how to capture DVD quality (720X576 or anything better) DV video on my computer using USB?

  1. If you've got USB but no stills facility, it must be for video streaming.  As other posters have said, you need to capture your video via firewire.

  2. minidv camcorders need a firewire connection.

If you have a mini dv (cassette) camcorder….

Your dv camcorder needs a firewire connection (ieee 1394) in order to download video, your PC probably did not come with a firewire port, so you will have to buy one and install it, since most computers (except possibly brand new) don't come with a firewire port, your camcorder did not come with a firewire cord so you have to purchase a cord too. Your camcorder did come with a USB cord and that is used for downloading stills from your camcorder. Make sure your camera is in playback mode.

  3. You can't!!! If you perused the resolves answers you would see you need to connect with a iLink / firewire cable to the firewire port of your PC. USB is for transferring jpeg from tour memory stick or stream video as a webcam. There is a whole section in your camera's manual. See the links below for more info>>>>>>>>>>
