  1. African Violets are the most popular Houseplant in the world (because of their beauty, range of colors, and ease.) Be careful not to water them with cold water. I use luke warm water, but let them dry out between watering. They thrive in a bright, but not hot window. Also they rest from time to time, between flowering. Usually they will flower again in the spring. I suggest visiting www.africanvioletsocietyofamerica.org. There are lots of books on them that may help you to.The most common problem is Crown rot caused by overwatering them.

  2. Mine are potted in the house.  About once a week I water them from the bottom because they do not like their leaves to get wet!!

  3. African violets do not like to have their leaves wet and prefer to be watered from the bottom.  Set the pot in one of those plastic dishes and put the water in the dish.  There are also violet pots that you can purchase that are two parts - one for the plant inself that sits into a bottom; fill the bottom with water and the plant will pull the water up through the roots.

I've always seen African violets as houseplants, but I live in a northern climate.

  4. African violets do well in a south facing window....next choice would be east or west.  If you put them in a south facing window, they will bloom and bloom for you.  You will want to water them when the suface of the soil feels dry to the touch and fertilize about once a month or so with a basic houseplant fertilizer.  They really are easy to care for as long as you dont neglect them and they get enough light.  Good luck!

  5. i would suggest that you take a look at this site, it has a short paragraph but if you want more in depth it has that too..

  6. i dont know where you live but in the uk they would live inside.

be careful with water. dont give it too much. every 3-4 days unless it is still wet from the last watering.

they are said to help ward off negative influences.
