I don't have a money belt, nor time to find one before I leave. Are there any alternative ways to keep my passport, cash, credit card, et al safe while traveling (to Italy, FWIW)?

  1. i have carried $10k in my sock...noone is going to make you pull down your socks.  it works, its safe and all you have to do is make sure it stays there

    :)

  2. A f***y pack.

  3. okay this my sound like I'm joking but I'm really being dead serious. your bra is a great place to hide them.

I've also hidden extra money in my shoes.

If you don't need to carry your passport then dont. Leave it at the hotel as much as possible.  And just bring a little bit more cash than you expect to spend (if you leave most at the hotel it will also stop you from over-spending too fast and being broke the rest of your trip) so bring a bit of cash (in your socks/shoes or bra) and keep a credit card in your shoe as well.

  4. When you get to the hotel put your passport, most of your money and a spare credit card in the hotel safe deposit box.

You should carry a copy of your passport with you in most countries, for identification.

Only carry enough cash for one day. If you want to keep some seperate, your sock or your shoe.

Don't wear stupid amounts of jewelry or an expensive watch.

In case you are mugged carry a wallet containing expired cards and a few notes of some worthless currency, to hand over (or throw behind your mugger) then run in the opposite direction!
