I own a home that is about one mile away from the home that I currently live in. It's being used for storage and has quite a but of stuff in and around is as it has been almost constantly lived in for over 200 years! My problem is that over the past year, we have had stuff stolen five times. That last time being today. They have taken an old car that I was going to donate to the Kidney Foundation, among about 3,000 dollars worth of other things. I don't have the time to be there, or to drive by all the time and don't have money for a proper security system. Plus all of the stuff that has been stolen has been from outside/under barn/etc. Has anyone found a solution to a similar problem? The police don't do anything so we've stopped notifying them. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!!

  1. Cameras never lie

  2. Anything that is worth saving, you will have to lock up.  Put up no trespassing signs, get a really mean dog to patrol the area, some dummy cameras, violators will be prosecuted, etc.  Put in big letters so who ever is doing it will stop.  Chances are it's the same person/group.  They know the area, they know you aren't there, and they know nothing is going to happen.

  3. you need a whole house to store your extra things in? ever hear of the word hoarding?

  4. If you are unwilling to use the cops, and unwilling to spend any money or time protecting your stuff, you could try putting up a sign saying "this is not junk.  Please don't take it."

  5. I have a problem similar to yours, and as hard as it is to accept, you have to get everything inside.  Huge hassle, I know.  Lots of lights help, too.  Good Luck!
