I'm a sophmore, and I've been home training in bjj and jj for 2 years. I've used the net and home dvds to learn the art. I was wondering if it was possible to go to a dojo or any jiu-jitsu instructional place, and take the black belt exam to certify my qualifications for the belt?

The list of dvds, I've watched to train myself include the following:

-Daniel Moraes series

-Eddie brave Rubber Guard

-Frank Shamrock Series

-Free style Revolution

-Gracie jiujitsu Basic, intermediate, and advance

-Judo for Bjj

Marcelo Garcia series

-Mario Sperry Vale Tudo (all 3)

-Schembri Omoplata series

Note: Aside from jiu jitsu, I've also trained in Kungfu Bagua, I can do full side splits, and almost front splits. And I'm 14.

  1. the quickest any body has ever received  back belt is thee and a half years. these people are Loyd Irvin Jr. and BJ Penn.

  2. I would suggest you visit a dojo that teaches the same style of martial arts you studied.  You may need to practice your art with the instructor at the dojo, to perfect your moves.  Learning martial arts, in my experience, includes not only the different techniques but also etiquette and moral values.  It includes history and background of the arts.  It includes practicing with partners and teaching.  It includes participating in tournaments.  Schools and instructors vary, so it's well to check them out before you decide which one to join.  It would be well worth your while because you would become part of a martial arts community, from which you can learn and to which you can contribute.

You would earn not only a certificate but the belt that goes along with it.

    Good luck.

  3. Sure go into any dojo or place you see them teaching jj and see if they'll let you spar. Make sure you ask for Blue Belt and above, that way you can see what it's really like.

Get a grip kid, you need to train at a real school with real people who know what they are doing in order to gain anything of real value.

  4. hello, im a bjj brown belt. im sure that no school is going to let u take a black belt test without having completed any classes. you will know some of the bjj moves, basic guards, ect. but without a real instructor you still will not be anywhere near a black belt level. it takes time and long hours of practicing the art against opponents that are not only on your level but are bigger, stronger, older, more years of training. dvd's can not give you training close to the level of a instructor who's mastered the art. ive attended seminors taught by eddie bravo and jerry jones. videos can only give you a basic idea of what the art of jiu jitsu is really about. im sure if you started classes you would be very advanced. but you couldnt role with trained black belts. ive competed in many grappling tournys and it takes practice aganist other fighters to get to a top level. you sound very committed and i admire you for that. but my advice is to get into a jiu jitsu school. and if there are none near you...try high school wrestling. cause i know if you walk into a grappling school wanting a black belt test they will laugh at you. but again all the best and good luck. but you need to find a real martial art school. even if its karate, TKD, ect.
