How to change MS office Word 2007 file extension from .docx to application/msword .doc?

I have gotten emails from potential employers stating that they could not download my resume and cover letter. I have MS OFFICE WORD 2007 installed on my computer and Dont understand why the file type is something like..application/vnd.openxmlformats-off... I just need to know how to fix this because I really need to send out lots of resumes

  1. Hi,

    this is easy just save your C.V as a MS 2003 doc (it's in the "save as" list). hope this helps you get the job.


  2. Many employers and agencies still don't handle the new MS Word 2007 file format (.docx) but do handle the older MS Word file format (.doc).

    To satisfy them, do the following:

    1. With your resume open, click the Office button in the upper left corner of the window.

    2. Click Save As.

    3. Select Word 97-2003 format to save as.

    If there is no such format present, you may have to install the document converters from the installation CDs.

    Hope that helps.

    Try the File -> save as method, although if you are recieving this document from someone else, you don't have that option.
