It said that you can not customize a Palms background on the main menu ( not the phone one), however this webside has pictures of Centro with customized background behind icons.

  1. You used to be able to change the background easily, I did it all the time on my Zire72.  Unfortunately Palm does a lot of stupid things and they decided not to let you do it in theirs.

    Here's the thing though:

You can set a background in the Phone application.  Hit the phone button on the upper left, bring up the menu, options > phone display options > show wallpaper, click the box and pick an image.  Or you can go to an image in the Pics&Videos app, go to the menu, and click set as wallpaper.

Palm is stupid for not letting you control the background of the launcher.  However I don't worry about it because I use zLauncher, which is the best launcher you can get, and it really pimps out your centro.  You can even have a different background image for different tabs.  You can have themes, icon sets, sounds, etc. etc.  You'll need to add a few plugins so you can see how many bars of service you have. See the link in references.
