In Office 2007, you can save it as a PDF.

In Office 2003, you will need to have a DOC to PDF converter or you will need Adobe Acrobat installed. If Acrobat is installed, set it as your printer and create the file. If you're using a converter, just file the instructions of the converter.

However, it might be easier to ZIP the file in order to make it smaller.
