Question:

How to change an area code on a dvd?

I recently bought the BBC version of North and South off of Ebay from a seller in Europe. The problem is that every time I put the dvds in my computer or tv dvd player it says that they cannot be played due to the different area codes.

My computer gives me the option of changing my players' area code but it only lets me change it three times. So when I first put it in the dvds (I probably shouldn't have) I changed my players' area code to the European area code and then when I put in another movie I found out I couldn't play any of my other someodd 50 dvds since they had the "American" area code so I changed it back in the same week to the American code. So now I can only change my dvd players code one more time and can no longer change it back.

Is there any way to change the code on the dvd instead of the dvd player?

  1. No, it's set. It's called region code. We are number 1. The coding on the DVD can't be changed.

About the only thing you can do is buy a region free DVD player.

  2. I think you mean region codes and no they cannot be changed.  Each region has it's own player (to help combat bootleggers). Hence why if yu buy a disc overseas it won't play in the States.  There is nothing you can do, unless you buy a region free player.

  3. Yes you can eliminate the region coding from any dvd, but it is somewhat time consuming and will involve ripping the dvd to your computer first using software. First you need to visit this site www.doom9.org. they have all the information you need to remove region encoding from a dvd. If you purchased the dvd you have the right to do whatever you want with it as long as it doesnt involve making illegal copies.
