I have a 1982 mercruiser 120 that I believe needs a new impellor because its not circulating water, and I dont know nothing about doing it. Is it fairly simple to do or should I not attempt it.

  1. You have to drop the gearcase (lower unit).  Look for multiple bolts or nuts where the top of the gearcase meets the upper half of the outdrive.  Once it's out, just remove the four or six screws holding the impeller housing (it's over the driveshaft) and pull the pump off.  Note the direction of the vanes, and be sure to put the new one in the same direction.  Spread some light grease in the impeller cup before you install the impeller.
