I'm going from Manchester (Picadilly) to Doncaster by train and then I must change there to another train to London (King's Cross) and I only have 12 minutes to do it. It's gonna be on a Saturday evening. Is it enough? Do they have regular platforms or are the always changing? How can I know all this? Help, please!!!

  1. I live in Doncaster.. unfortunately for you I'm not a fan of the train. In fact, I've probably used the train less than 10 times. Someone will probably help you out there if you ask (avoid chavs, they're more likely to beat you up and/or steal your wallet than they are to help you and Doncaster is infested with them unfortunately =/).

  2. 12 minutes is ample time to change trains. Saturday evening is off-peak so things should be fairly quiet.

As to last-minute platform changes, if they happen, they will be announced and passengers given enough time to move from one platform to the other. I don't know what it's like at Doncaster because I don't use the station. It happens a lot at Bristol Temple Meads which is a bigger station than Doncaster.

  3. There is a large subway connecting all the platforms at Doncaster. You will have to use this. I can't remember the platform numbering but it is likely that you will have to use this subway. Go down the steps, turn right then go along and up the next set of steps. There are, however, plenty of indicator boards showing arrivals and departures and the platforms to be used and each platform has an indicator showing the 'next train' details.

Incidentally, going to London from Manchester Piccadilly via Doncaster seems a heck of a way round, but no doubt you have your reasons.

  4. ample time but you can get a direct train to London Euston from Manchester

Euston  to Kings Cross on the underground is only two stops

  5. I can't understand why you need to change in between trains.  Will your clothes be dirty after one train journey ?

There are toilets at Doncaster station so you could always change in there.  I suppose the 12 minutes depends upon what you need to change!  Is it a full outfit or just your top.

Most people who travel by train nowadays get from their origin to their  destination in the same set of clothes.

  6. In answer to ur question ..  12 mins would be enough.. your train would come in on platform 8 .. or may be 4 .. or sometimes 3 .. if it comes in on 4 or 8 then its down the steps to the subway then up the steps onto platforms 1 and 3 .. ur train to london kings cross comes in on either .. just listen to the announcements or look @ the monitors for the information ..failing that just ask a member of staff ... easy .. but,,'' not wanting to worry u,, there is a risk .. this being if ur train from Manchester is running late <for whatever reason> then u might miss ur train to London .. this because its not a booked connection.. its a chance .. suggest u go alittle earlier and if u miss one then theres another not long behind .. on a sat evening they depart doncaster @ 17-55 / 18-10 /18-52 / 19-05 /  19-14 / 20-04 / 20-30 / and the last one is 20-48 .. journey time approx 1hr 45mins .. hope this will be of help

  7. 12Min's should be plenty of time, i live in doncaster ,the station isn't that big so it shouldn't be a problem but I'm not sure were london kings cross goes from ive been on it 3 times this last 2 years on 2 different platforms
