How to change digital photos to get them printed 6x4?

I've a lot of photos that I want to get printed out but the last time I did this online I ended up with a few hundred photos with white borders. I want to order more but the only options available are to get them 6x4.5 (which doesn't fit any standard photo frames), or get them with the white border, or crop the photos. I don't want the white border, and I can't crop them because a lot of them are tight to the edge as it is. Is there any way of resizing photos?

Use a photo editor to resize your photos

6" x 4" equals 1800px X 1200px @ 300dpi

You can check your digital camera guide and see if you can take your photos in that proportion so that you do not have to crop them later.  Many cameras now have those option because of the situation you described.  Sorry I can't be more specific without knowing what camera you are using.

For the photos you already have on your computer, unfortunately you may have to crop them yourself.  You shouldn't need any special software if that's all you're doing.  Windows Vista has a very simple photo editor that is good for cropping and you can set it to a 4X6 dimention in either landscape or portrait and crop your photos that way.  

Walgreens, if you are in the US, can automatically crop them when you submit them for printing, but they simply cut it down so they can get the right dimensions and you may end up with photos of people missing half their head etc.

I don't understand why it is such a problem, unless you are framing every photo you have taken.

For the future photos, however, you should be able to set the resolution/image size on your camera to avoid this issue all together.

It might be where you are located or what service you are using.  Here in the US we get the option to print 6X4 and if the picture is too big they crop it.

If I'm too particular as to the croping then I resize the picture to be printed 4x6, 5X7 or 8x10 using Photoshop.  You can purchase Photoshop Elements for about $100 or get a free version or Photoshop express or Photoshop Album
