How to change into the original filename?

hi! well i was downloading some stuff over the internet and the file was in .001 format since it was split by hjsplit...i tried opening it and then there appeared a prompt for me to choose what prgram i want it opened with well since its a vid i clicked on windows media player but it wouldn't play so i checked on the site where i got it and then i saw the tutorial...it says there that the file should not be modified in any way even the filename shouldn't be renamed...what should i do? i even checked on "always use this to open" thingie....how do i go about changing that because the icon also changed into media players icon....help help please thanks!!!

You have changed your file association. Go to control panel >> Folder Options, click on the 'file types' tab, go down the list of extensions, find the extension you want to change (in your case '001'), click on it so that it is highlited, the click delete, then click on yes when asked if you are sure and finally click ok.

As for your split file, you will need to join it back up before you can open it. Run hjsplit (download it if you don't have it), click on 'join' then click on 'input file' browse to the loaction of the file, and the click 'open' then click on 'start' (make sure you have all the parts). Let it finish joining up all the files and the it is ready.

It sounds like its in an archive format, like zip or Rar, ise 7-zip to extract them.

Download fomr link below - install - right clikc on the first folder ( should have no number at all) choose 7-zip - extract all - ok - wait a bit, and a folder should be made with a movie file in it.
