How to change my laptop's ip address?

I'm connected to a wireless router, and so are the other computers in my house. I have a laptop, and am wondering how to change my ip address with these given circumstances.

You can use a virtual private network (VPN) A free vpn called Anchor Free http://anchorfree.com/downloads/hotspot-...  is ok for viewing websites but not fast enough for sites like youtube and it has annoying banner ads across the top of the screen. Or you can pay for a VPN witch will cost about $15 dollars US a month that is faster. just google vpn and find one you like.

Your laptop's IP is only a local IP that doesn't show anywhere outside your own network. It's probabaly 192.168.something.something.

Your router's IP address is the one that shows to the rest of the world. That IP address might change if you restart your modem and router, but that depends entirely on your internet provider. There may be nothing you can do to change it on your own.

How do you get your IP?

If it is DHCP then go to Start>Run>cmd>ipconfig /release[enter] ipconfig /renew[enter]. You can see how you are setup by going to Start>Run>cmd>ipconfig /all and it will show whether DHCP is enabled on your machine's wireless

If you are using static ip then right click on My Network Places, select properties from the dropdown menu, double click your wireless connection icon from the properties window and double click Internet Protocol [TCP/IP] from the properties window. Make sure the number you set is in your network range but not used by any other machine. If you have other numbers on this page you had better copy them so you can fall back if needed.

Control Panel / Network Connections / Local Area Connection (or Wireless Network Connection)

Right click and choose Properties

Scroll down and find 'Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)'

Click it and then hit Properties

Click Use the following IP address and type it in

Use the router's IP for the DNS server entries.(probably 192.168.1.1)

Use the router's address for the default gateway as well.

Use 255.255.255.0 for the subnet mask.

To choose an IP for the machine, go to start/run

type in cmd

type in ipconfig

your network will probably look like 192.168.1.x

Use something like 192.168.1.200 for your IP.
