Question:

How to change my user account without logging in as administrator?

My brother, being a little playful put a password on the administrator(my account) and then unknowingly, switched off the pc. After switching on, I found that I cant log into my account and instead I had to use a limited account I had created before. Now he doesn't want to tell me the password and may be he doesnt remember it too. I cant take it any more. I am unable to install any software and the main administrator( whose password I know) is also not appearing in the safe mode. I also cannot re-install my XP again due to the administrator privileges. Please help me.

  1. Ok here is my last option and I gotta warn you, there are risks of losing data in your computer but I guess it's worth trying rather than losing everything.

Here's what you gonna do with your limited account:

    1. Go to Start > Choose run

    2. type in "mmc" without the quotes

    3. Then click File and choose Add/Remove snap in.

    4. In the standalone tab click "add"

    5. Search for "Local Users and Groups"

    6. Click Add

    7. Then Finish

    8. Next is Close

    9. Click OK

    10. In the console root expand local users and groups

    11. click on users

    12. At the right side you can see the usernames of the accounts in your pc, right click on the username of your account then choose "Set Password"

    13. Choose Proceed (read the warning 1st)

    14. Then Set the password

Hope this helps. this is the last option i thought of

  2. Not possible to go and change your password when you don't know your admin password. Get your brother to remember it, and if he doesn't...................

Re-format your computer. There's not much choice here.
