How to change settings on my router?

I've been having some trouble with my router, and getting IP address conflicts, which in turn stops my internet from working until I restart my computer. I had already asked how to fix that and the answer was to change the IP address on my router, problem is, I don't know how to. I've searched all over my control panel for the settings, but can't find anything. I don't ever remember installing any software for my router, and if I was supposed to, I don't own it.

the brand of my router is a Linksys 2.4 GHz 54Mbps Wireless Broadband Router

  1. here is what you do. open your internet explorer and type the following

          http://192.168.1.1/

then it will bring you to a screen where you are prompted to enter username and password. if you did not already choose your password and username use the following

    User name: blank or admin

    password: admin

Then you will be able to play with the setting of your router. make sure you set your own username and password before you leave setting  . . .

    hope this helps . . .

    good luck!

  2. There is a web based configuration utility for your linksys. type in 192.168.1.1 in your web browser and you can make changes there.

  3. If you would like to log into your router, you may be able to do so by typing 192.168.0.1 into your browser.

From there, you should log in using your router's username and password. If you don't know what they are, you may want to try using one of the combinations below.

    Username: admin

    Password: password

    or

    Username: admin

    Password: admin

Good luck and I hope I helped you!

  4. Go back to the owner's manual that came with your router and look for something like this:- http://192.54.2.1,http://184.21.3.1 etc. These set of numbers will take you to your router's website, where you can configure everything about your router. Just open up your browser, type in the address and configure your router settings. Also you can try disconnecting your modem and router, wait for 5 mins or more and then reconnect the modem first, wait' til its finish syncing then connect the router. These simple steps can also help with ip address conflicts. Hope this helps!!
