    From the list on the left, click Members and locate the member on the Members page.

    Click Edit Membership.

    A little way down, click Change to Moderator.

    Click on the Make Moderator button to confirm.

  2. If you do not plan to be active in the group after "retiring", you should make someone else an Owner instead of moderator.

    Then make yourself a member.  You can then leave the group or remain as a member. Use the links that crazy_mom gave in her answer for how to do this

    An owner is afforded more privileges than a moderator. The person taking over the group would really need those extra privileges.  That's why you should make him/her an owner.

    (There can be more than one owner in a group.)
