  1. There's a few possible reasons for this.  This first is that your video card's drivers are acting up.  Drivers are the things that control how the hardware in your machine operates, and if they get corrupted, things start acting funky.  Usually new computers come with a CD that says something like "Drivers and Tools."  Pop that CD into your machine and see if you can reinstall the video drivers on your machine.

Also, make sure your "color quality" is set to the right level.  To do this, right click on your desktop, and select "properties" from the context menu that pops up.  A dialog box will pop up; click on the tab that says "Settings."  Make sure your "Color quality" is at least 16 bits.  If you don't see an option to set your color quality to 16 bit, your video card drivers are messed up.

It could also be the monitor itself.  However, if you have red's that are turning into "black/grey," this is unlikely the culprit.  But it never hurts to try another monitor and see if that's the problem.  Also, you might want to set your monitors settings back to "factory defaults."

The only other thing is a virus.  This is highly unlikely, but there are a few that will let users mess with video settings.  Good luck!
