How to change the freewheel on my bike?

i have a 05 diamondback.. how do i get the freewheel off. is there a special tool to put in the two slots inside the freewheel to take it off... or should i just buy a new one?? what kind would i need for a new one? what will fit? its a 14mm axle

  1. Yes it takes a special tool to remove your freewheel.

    buy  one from performance bike for about 6.99, http://www.performancebike.com/you can also buy them at Nashbar http://www.nashbar.com/index.cfm or most any bike shop for about the same price, really a simple procedure to remove.


  2. It takes a special tool. Take it to the bike shop, it costs about $8 for them to take it off. Or you can buy the tool, about $15, and you won't have to go to the shop again.
