How to check IP address in MAC computer?

in windows , we put ipconfig to see ip address

ping 4.2.2.2 to check connectiviy.......

now i want to know how to do the same in macintosh....do we need some other commands or use the same command in MAC too........

also where to type these commands in MAC computer

  1. honestly, i went to this question to find the answer to the question, and ended up figuring it out myself...

    go to the apple in the upper left hand corner

    then about this mac

    then more info

    then on the left hand corner go to network

    and you should find your ip there


  2. Go under the Apple in the top left hand corner. Then click on Location, then go to Network preferences, then click on Configure. Good luck and get the Mac for Dummies book. I use it all the time.

  4. In Applications/Utilities/ there is an app called Network Utility.

    Ping, NetStat, Lookup, Traceroute and more to your heart's content with that.

    If you prefer to do it with a command line, in the same directory is Terminal.app. It's UNIX not DOS though.
