Is there a button combination I can press and the camera will tell me how many frames I have shot with the camera overall?

  1. No, however you may be able to use OPanda EXIF view.  Most of the DSLR's made in the past five years, keep track the number of shots.

There may be a listing that says, "Total Number of Shutter Releases for Camera = 1234" down toward the bottom of the EXIF data.

  2. Fortunately or unfortunately (depending on why you want to know), Opanda IExif won't be able to help you because Canon does not write the total number of shutter activations to the EXIF metadata in their non 1 series cameras.

If you want to know how many you've shot on your 30D, you'll have to send it to Canon to get that number.  If you are trying to sell it, estimate it based on how often you shoot and about how many photos you take on each outing.

If you left your numbering on continuous numbering and never inserted a CF card that had images using a different numbering, you could use that as an estimate too.  The problem is once you set it to restart numbering or insert a card that has a different numbering scheme, the camera will start at 0000 or pick up the numbering from the card.
