  1. Check the motor oil with the car parked on level ground engine OFF. Locate dipstick, remove and wipe clean with a lint free cloth or leather. Re- insert into the dipstick tube fully and remove again. You READ the level at the tip. Hold the dip stick pointing down so you have an accurate reading. There should be an area at the bottom of the stick with 2 lines or hash marks. the oil should be between these lines. If it is at the bottom of the range, add 1/2 quart in recommended oil into oil filler opening. Owners manual will have specific info for your particular auto.

Good luck and congratulations on taking care of your car!

Transmissions vary, check your owners manual.

  2. ck the engine oil with the engine off/ check the transmission fluid with it running

  3. transmission.  with engine running in idle , and in park with the parking brake on.  this is good to do if there is leak. but if you dont see any leak on the parking spot, fluid level monitoring is done ehhhh once a month or so. :)

  4. With the engine warmed up to operating temp. Have the vehicle in PARK. pull the transmission dipstick. wipe it clean with a cloth. reinsert it then remove. check level and smell it. if it smells burnt, you have a slipping clutch. some trany's will go for along time with this problem. If you have to check it often you have a leak. Have it checked out or soon you will go nowhere!!

    Usually estimates are FREE!

  5. Simple, look for the dipstick and pull out, if its at the full mark, your ok. (car has to be turned off)

For transmission, its the same thing, but the dipstick for that is mounted lower, and has to have the car running to check.

  6. Transmission
