  1. are you using windowsXP? well with any windows just click on Ctrl + Alt and Delete. in windowsXP you'll get a little window.. there you can see what process are running.,

    in Windows Vista, a sreen will cover your who deskptop asking you want you want to do, choose "task manager"


  2. The biggest thing here is the programs that start with your PC. Click Start then click Run, type in    msconfig

    Click the Startup tab on the far right.. those checkboxed programs are all the programs that startup with your computer, and I can guarantee at least half of them dont need to be there. You can carefully uncheck the programs you know for a fact dont need to boot up with your system.

    Also daily maintenance really helps: disc cleanup, registry cleaning, no idle time, etc.
