Question:

How to cheer her up?

My girlfriend has been down in the dumps lately due to financial issues as she is likely to have her house foreclosed on. I have tried loaning her the money to pay it up current but she refuses and I wont go to the bank myself as I know that will only make her mad. In the mean time I have been trying to do other things to brighten her up like the other day i left work early to get the yard work done, and I entertain her daughter so that she can work on other things as time is always tight. The sad thing is that starting today until Thursday I am working 4pm to midnight, and this weekend I may have to go to Florida for a friends bone marrow transplant. I am just wondering if there is anything I can do outside the norm to surprise her and cheer her up.

  1. She cannot be cheered up as long as her house is going into foreclosure, no one could. Since she doesn't want you to loan her the money to pay up till current there is nothing more you can do.

Your efforts are so kind, it's show how much you care, but when one feels they are about to lose their home nothing else, short of a miracle, is going to matter.

Did she say why she won't accept your offer of a loan? Since she knows what is going to happen has she made plans about where she is going to live? Are you included in those plans? I would suggest you find out what is going on with her. Especially her refusal to accept your offer.

I feel something is missing here.

  2. Sounds like you're a fantastic support and encouragement.

Does your girlfriend have a really good girlfriend?  Such a friend can be a great source of ideas like this.

One thing I read said to write an encouraging message and leave it somewhere she will find it while you're gone.  One example was to put a post-it note on the underside of the toilet lid.  ;-)

  3. Well, if you really want to surprise her & cheer her up, dial up the bank & find out how much it's going to take to get the leeches off her back.  Then tell them you wish to make an anonymous contribution to make it happen. Last, have the bank explain to her that they made some adjustments, & will be postponing the foreclosing until further notice.

Funny, how money can solve so many problems > sometimes you just have to throw some money at the problem & it goes away.

But if you're going through all this trouble, why not just marry & be done with it?
