  1. If they're not in your fruit bag, choose oranges that are firm and juicy - i.e. they feel heavy for their size.

    Old oranges do dry out and lose their flavour.

    Note: green tinges don't necessarily mean the orange isn't ripe. They're still ok to eat.  




  2. My mum taught me to choose oranges which are not so hard (juicier) and if they have little bumps at 1 end... sure sweet!

  3. There is no sure way to tell if an orange or any fruit for that matter, is sweet or not unless you taste it. You're in luck though, Valencias are now in season (Navels are done) and are typically a sweet juicy orange. Unlike the Navel, they may contain a few seeds, are thinner skinned but quite juicy and sweet.

  4. I always find the best tasting oranges at the greengrocer rather then a supermarket
