  1. well you never want to get a puppy that is born in a puppy-mill, because they can end up with some serious problems. if you want a sweet, loyal, loving dog then you should get a beagle. i think petfinder.com is pretty cool as well. i know you were looking for a link but heres some other ideas... maybe there is a local breeder in your area. go to your local animal shelter.

  11. I'm not sure if you're asking about choosing a breed or an individual puppy.  As for breed, perhaps get a dog breed book and read through the dogs' descriptions and personalities, and choose a breed that sounds like it would suit your life.  Perhaps have a look at this site's advice with regard to choosing a breed: http://www.akc.org/future_dog_owner/find...  That site also has an alphabetical list of breeds, along with pictures of the breed so that you can have an idea as to what each dog looks like (there is a link to that list of breeds at the bottom of the page I attached above).

Also, you could perhaps take a look at your local shelter, and see if there is a dog there that might be for you.  Saving an animal from a shelter is a wonderful thing to do, especially when you aren't sure what type of breed you might want...

Then, with regard to choosing the right dog/puppy out of group/litter, you have to choose carefully.  When picking a puppy out of a litter (if that is what you're doing), or if you're choosing puppies/dogs from a shelter, it is important to observe the puppies first.  You don't want to choose the puppy that hides in a corner and doesn't come when called, and you don't want a puppy that acts overly bossy or dominant.  There is happy medium with puppies - you want the puppy that acts as a puppy should; you want the puppy that comes to you playfully, that will let you pick it up (and even put it on its back), and that is simply friendly.  To guide you more, I found this site that I believe sums up picking out a puppy rather well: http://www.yourpurebredpuppy.com/buying/...

That site offers some excellent advice when it comes to picking out a puppy...

    Best wishes!
