How to chose tennis string?

I'm going to have my Prince racquet re-strung in a couple weeks and don't really know what type of string i should use? Any suggestions? I don't have a big serve but have a big forehand and my game is all about placement so I was thinking some sort of string for control? Also, what tension should I have it strung to?

  1. If you are not a string breaker, try going with a thinner synthetic gut, like Gamma Pro Plus, at the 17 gauge, at 58-60 pounds.  You could also put a poly like Luxilon  Big Banger or Signum Poly Plasma in the crosses at 52-54 pounds.  Or you can put in a prepackaged Babolat hybrid with Natural Gut and Hurricane Pro Tour, which is more expensive, but a good choice.  I find that you need to experiment with a few different strings before finding the one that suits your game best.  Strings are almost as important as the racquet itself, in my opinion.  They're like tires on your car.  If you want your car to handle and perform, you need good performance tires (Natural Gut, is the best).

  2. I'd say don't worry about strings that supposedly generate spin. Focus on durability and/or comfort. a good durable string that I absolutely love is the Babolat Pro Hurricane Tour. I play local USTA tournaments about twice a month, I strung my racket with Pro Hurricane Tour at the begining of the summer and I haven't broken a string yet.
