Question:

How to clean Peacock Feathers?

Someone gave me feathers that their male peacock shed. They are beautiful and I was wanting to make some type of display with them, but since the bird was outside on a farm, was wondering if there is a way to clean them without tearing or messing up the feathers. Just do not want to take a chance, plus I have parakeets and do not want to have any mites transfered to them. Thanks

  1. You could try putting them in the freezer for a couple of days. Then place in a knee high stocking and vacuum well.

You could also fill up the sink with water and dish soap. Sprinkle the feathers on top then gently dunk the feathers with your hands. Then let them soak for about half an hour. Drain the sink, refill w/ fresh water, and repeat dunking & soaking. Remove feathers, and if necessary, reshape. Lay them out on a towel until dry.
